A Quilter’s Affair 2014

What a wonderful week in Sisters, Oregon of teaching, special events, meeting up with old friends and finding some new friends too!  I’m in awe and grateful for the experience in such a wonderful setting.  The students were absolutely wonderful, making great progress on their projects each day.  It was fun to meet up with several later in the week as they let me know that they had finished their quilts!  I had several groups attending my classes who came together including a set of sisters I’ll never forget as well as a set of Grandmother/Mom/daughter who spent a remarkable day together with me.  My youngest student is pictured above, a teenager who did an outstanding job on a complicated pattern! The middle pic is a fun and colorful version of my Hot Ziggidy! pattern from Friday’s class.  The pic of me is from the instructor’s show and tell on Thursday night.  I decided to show a footstool instead of a quilt!

Thanks is hardly expansive enough to cover the amount of effort Jean Wells, Valori Wells and all the Quilter’s Affair staff, as well as the townspeople of Sisters, Oregon put into this event.  It is humbling to see how well everything works, and to be included.

Stay tuned for more pics and thoughts about the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show which is always the second Saturday of July.

New Pattern on Craftsy!

A New York Minute!

This is my most popular class pattern of all time.  Most guilds will choose it because it looks complex, but is simple enough to finish in a day-long class.  Originally it was designed as a baby quilt, but I’ve also used it for a throw and a wall hanging.   It finishes at 40″ x 50″ and takes mostly 1/4 yard and 1/2 yard cuts of fabric.  It really is a fun quilt to sew together, and can easily be that last minute gift you pull from your stash.  You can cut and sew it together in 4 hours!

Use the Craftsy icon in the left column to get to my Craftsy Pattern Shop.  You will make this quilt over and over! The name says it all, you will finish this one in a New York Minute!

Love making Table runners!

Black Eyed Batik

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I’m just like a lot of you, I love a quick project now and them sprinkled in with the more complex quilts I work on.  Table runners are one of my go-to projects, when I just want to FINISH SOMETHING…….., ANYTHING!  These pics are of table runners, and one horizontal wall hanging that have helped me keep my sanity that way!  I love rich saturated colors, and making a small piece gives me a chance to work with different fabrics and colors I might not automatically choose otherwise.  I can see how they work together, and that will give me confidence to use them in a larger piece as well.  All of these runners were designed in collaboration with Lisa Bee-Wilson over at Towerhouse Quilts, so be sure to check her site to get a look at her versions.   Click here to download the FREE patterns for each of them! The wall hanging, Waves of Hospitality is an art piece I did a few years back, and of course I teach classes in this technique, and have added my signature pieced borders to this one.  Hope you enjoy seeing them!

The featured image at the top of this post is a table runner from “Perfect-Fit Pieced Borders” called “Black Eyed Batik”, another colorful favorite!  That book is out of print, but I have copies available on my shop page.

Guardian Stars , free pattern

Ever wonder what happens when you decide to make a quilt the second time? I’ve done just that with a couple of my favorites lately! The Guardian Stars Quilt looks amazingly different in these two fabric collections. It was designed originally for the Harrington Collection from P&B Textiles. You can download the free pattern here.
Then, as I was teaching the class at the Emerald Valley Quilters in Eugene, OR, I needed to have a sample. So, I made it up with fabrics from my stash. What fun to see how fast it went together! I love both quilts, and I’m so glad I made this pattern again.  I love the diamond shape that surrounds the center medallion.

So, best of all, it’s not too late to enter this quilt into the Blogger’s Quilt Festival!  Amy, of Amy’s Creative side organizes these which I’ve always enjoyed, but this is the first time I’ve entered a quilt! Here goes; Let’s enter Guardian Stars into the Original Design category!

Free Patterns Available through P&B

So, as I’ve been mentioning, there have been some new patterns in the works.  They are inspired by new fabric collections coming out from P&B Textiles!  Well, they are available now on their web site, and I’m happy to introduce them to you!

Three of a Kind table runner is made from the Silvia’s Sonnet Collection.  It’s a quick little project of three repeated blocks using fused applique.  The picture shown here uses just one block for a pillow.

Fun With Fizz is another modern quilt that features the whole line of the Fizz Collection.  Simple cutting and piecing, you’ll have this one finished in no time!

#Zig #Zag is modern quilt that will help to debut the Moderne Collection!  Following the pattern is the only way to keep things organized to make the colors flow across the quilt.  Remember it’s FREE, so don’t miss out!

Guardian Stars, made using the Harrington Collection is a quilt that I’ll be teaching this coming weekend for the Emerald Valley Quilters Guild in Eugene, Oregon!  It is a fun quilt to put together, and I’ve made it in other fabrics as well.  I think it would be a great Quilt of Valor!
